The Windsor Evening Record
Archibald McNee, a former editor of the Winnipeg Free Press, partnered with an investor named John McKay to own and operate the Windsor Record, which became the Windsor Evening Record. The Record was Windsor's first daily newspaper. The Amherstburg Echo commented on the transaction (Sept. 28th, 1888, p. 4) :
Wallace Graham has sold the Essex
Record to Archibald McNee, of Winnipeg,
Man. It is stated that Graham intends
taking an extended trip to California. Me.
McNee, the purchaser, is a veteran mem-
ber of the fourth estate. It is said Mr.
Graham has made a handsome profit by
the sale. The new owner will take hold
in about a month.
McNee and McKay would cover Windsor during a time of tremendous growth, and the newspaper would become available in the evenings, allowing reports from the day's activities. The Record became the Border Cities Star in 1918 when it was bought by W. F. Herman. The Border Cities Star is now the Windsor Star, which is still publishing.
