The Harrow News

J. J. Pratt was a reporter for The Owen Sound Daily Sun and started the Harrow News in 1931. In the inaugural issue, Pratt described what the newspaper would cover:

But what is news? Well it's news
if an accident happens, if someone is
seriously ill, a birth, a marriage, a
death, a visitor from another com-
munity or a visit to another com-
munity, an unusual occurrence of
any kind, a public improvement --
all this is news. But if Jim Jones
calls on Sally Smith, that is his own
business and has no news value, at
present at least. if you have an
item of local interest, in your com-
munity, do not be backward in send-
ing it in to THE NEWS.

Pratt published the newspaper until the early 1950s, when Cecil McKenzie took over the reins. THe Harrow News continues to be published weekly by Cecil's daughter, Natalie, and is the newspaper of record for Harrow.
