Notes:
ca. 1958; Sid Lloyd photograph of the carving of the University coat of arms which was eventually placed on the west wall of the new Assumption University library. On the back of the photo: This carving was done by Albert E. Rigg and his assistants at the Standard Stone Company Ltd. in collaboration with Mr. W. J. Carter, of the firm of Pennington and Carter, Architects. The style was evolved without aid of models or photographs of models, being developed in the stone proper directly from a series of single line scale drawings issuing from the office of the above architectural firm. The conventional style of carving in bas relief has been employed as a basic foundation which is usually expected in heraldry, and this has been superimposed by a strong indulgence in the modern trend. The contemporary result is a pleasing one and we believe that it will furnish a subject of interest for art and architectural critics and students for years to come. Roy C. Rigg; the translated motto is Teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge.
