Notes: Original at Windsor Community Museum (P5435 - PC 269); "The Detroit & Windsor Ferry Co. 1858; Str: Gem; Capt. Tom Chilvers; Wm Campbell, Owner"; This ferry ran between Windsor and Detroit; it was also the first ferry to run between Sandwich, Ontario and Springwells, Michigan (now part of Dearborn, MI and Detroit, MI). The photograph was likely taken in Windsor, on Brock Street, near the foot of Ouellette Avenue. Brock Street no longer exists. The old town pump is on the right (Township of Sandwich: Past and Present). |
