Notes: C. 1905; the St. Clair Tunnel consists of 2 tunnels that run under the St. Clair River between Sarnia, Ontario and Port Huron, Michigan; it was the first underwater tunnel built in North America; designed by Joseph Hobson, it was opened in 1891 by the St. Clair Tunnel Company, a subsidiary of the Grand Trunk Railway; the tunnel was 6,025 feet (1,836 m) long and 19 feet, 10 inches wide; it was replaced by a new tunnel which opened in 1994. |
