Notes: Postmarked 1908; addressed to Miss Fay Rumball; the steamer Omar D. Conger is passing through Central Bridge, Wallaceburg, Ontario; the steamer, named after a Michigan Senator, operated under the Port Huron & Sarnia Ferry Co.; it could carry 800 passengers and was considered unusually small with a length of 92 feet; it froze in the ice during an excursion in January, 1893 and the steamer was rebuilt following a fire in June 1901; a spectacular boiler explosion destroyed the steamer and killed 4 crew members on March 26, 1922 |
