Notes: C. 1920; north side of the office building of Hiram Walker and Sons, Distillers, in Walkerville, Ontario; the main office building, located at 2072 Riverside Drive east, was built between 1892 and 1894. Designed by the firm of Mason and Rice of Detroit, the style is 16th century Italian Renaissance architecture in Florentine style. Head draftsman Albert Kahn created the interior, which included mahogany and walnut panelling, imported marble and fine woodcarving. The main office is one and a half storeys high on the Riverside Drive side and two stories high on the Detroit River side (from Canada’s Historic Places website). |
