Postmarked 1911; Whaleback cargo steamships were designed by Captain Alexander McDougall; 44 Whalebacks were built between 1887 and 1898 and most were used in the Great Lakes for transporting grain and ore; addressed to J. Wambrook. This ship is the James. B. Colgate. It was built in 1892 and sank off the shores of Long Point, Ontario in Lake Erie on October 20th, 1916.
