C. 1914; Central Avenue, Belle Isle, Detroit, Michigan; Belle Isle Park contains about 700 acres and has cost Detroit, including bridge leading to it, about $2,000,000. It has beautiful lawns and floral displays, also many miles of highways and canals. It has a Zoo, Horticultural Building and Aquarium. Refreshments are served at both Casino and Pavillion. It was bought from the Chippewa and Ottawa Indians for eight barrels of rum three rolls of tobacco, six pounds of vermillion and a belt of wampum by Lieutenant McDougall in 1769. In 1879, 110 years afterward, it was sold to Detroit for $200,000. (from back of postcard); addressed to Miss Jesse Tousignant.
