c. 1905; the Sugar Factory in Wallaceburg was built in 1901, in the same year that sugar factories in Dresden, Berlin (Kitchener) and Wiarton were built; the factories in Dresden and Wiarton closed in 1907, and the Wallaceburg Sugar Company acquired the Kitchener plant to became the Dominion Sugar Company; the Sugar Factory in Chatham was built in 1916; the Kitchener plant closed in 1920; by 1930, the Canada and Dominion Sugar Company was formed by the merger of the Canada Sugar Refinery in Montreal and the Dominion Sugar Company (which owned both the Chatham and Wallaceburg factories).
