William Northwood was a maltster, shipping and forwarding agent, and Mayor of Chatham from 1879-1880; he was born in Chatham in 1842; see page 63 for more information; his house, on the east side of William Street North at the intersection of Murray Street, later became the Hotel Sanita, then the Chatham Vocational School, and is now the Chatham Cultural Centre.
